Birla Temple in Kolkata

Built on one side of a busy road, the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, also known as the Birla temple is a relatively new addition to the religious landscape of Kolkata. I didn't get permission to take our camera inside the temple. So all the fixed pics are taken from outside of the temple.

Took over twenty- two years to build to this beautiful all marble structure with very high quality Rajasthani engravings. Ppl says this temple is unfinished, I don't know from which view its unfinished. Sculptors were brought in from Agra, Mirzapur and Muzaffarpur to execute the intricate patterns on the walls

By looking the sculpture, I think the architecture of the temple draws mainly from the beautiful places of worship in neighboring Orissa.

It might not have the historical feel of some of Kolkata's older temples, but this temple in Ballygunge Phari is a visual delight. Inside this 48.7-m. high temple are idols of Radha, Krishna, Shiva and Durga.

The total cost incurred for the construction was Rs. 180 million. Spread over an area of 44-katha land and extending to a height of 160 feet

The gates were opened to the public in 1996 . A most recent addition to the city's pilgrimage points, this temple in south Kolkata attracts all kinds of people not just pilgrims through its architectural splendour.

That morning I have seen lots of ppl to come into this temple regardless of any religions.
